Founded in 1919, Barnes of Lincoln has a rich history rooted in family values and a commitment to exceptional service. Our journey began even earlier, in 1904 when grocer George Barnes started offering occasional furniture removals using his fruit and vegetable cart. Recognising the growing need for reliable moving services, the Barnes family formally established the company, dedicating themselves to helping people relocate with ease.
A Journey Through Time
At Barnes of Lincoln, we understand that safeguarding your belongings during transportation and storage is crucial. With five generations of experience, we offer an extensive range of high-quality packing materials designed to provide maximum protection for your items.
- Early Years: From humble beginnings, we expanded our services beyond local removals, building a reputation for reliability and care across the region.
- World War II Era: Despite the challenges of the war, Barnes of Lincoln continued to grow, adapting to the needs of the community and supporting the war effort.
- Post-War Expansion: In the second half of the 20th century, we experienced significant growth, acquiring two of our competitors and expanding our fleet to 17 vehicles.
- 1993 Expansion: We acquired new premises in North Hykeham, featuring a 40,000 sq ft storage facility. This allowed us to enhance our services and accommodate a larger client base.
- Always Improving: In 1999 to mark 80 years of dedicated service, we constructed a new warehouse with capacity for 500 storage pallets, further solidifying our position as a leading removals and storage company.
